This Continuing Education class is open to Certified Rolfers® and practitioners of Structural Integration who have completed an IASI-approved SI Training Program

The ability to address spinal curvature patterns, which at a pronounced degree can be classified as scoliosis, is an essential skill set for Structural Integration practitioners. This course will utilize the curvature patterns that we all possess to understand the dynamic features that affect the whole body. You will learn to see, feel, and work with curvature patterns no matter how slight or pronounced.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Review and deepen understanding of spinal segmental biomechanics
  • Review and deepen palpation skills of bony landmarks and relevant soft tissues
  • Movement possibilities and limitations in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions
  • Barrier concepts and range of motion
  • The significance of transitional zones between cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions
  • Increasing perception and confidence about the sacrum and sacroiliac joints
  • Understanding important relationships between the SI joints, pelvis, and legs
  • Costal vertebral relationships
  • Complexities of the thoracic spine
  • Cervical/Occipital relationship
  • Viewing curvature patterns as an aspect of the whole body pattern
  • Mapping spinal patterns in three dimensions
  • Perceiving the spine’s relationship to the whole body pattern
  • Applying the concept of adaptability to expectations of change in the spinal pattern
  • Addressing spinal patterns progressively
  • Working with disc and nerve pathologies
  • The spine in the context of the 10-series and post-10 advanced work

About the Instructor

Russell Stolzoff first encountered Rolfing® as a classroom client at The Rolf Institute® in 1983. The energy and freedom it brought inspired him to train as a Certified Rolfer®. He completed his training in 1989 and his advanced certification in 1997. Russell augmented his Rolfing training with studies in trauma via Somatic Experiencing and in somatic developmental psychology at the Bodynamic Institute of Denmark. Russell began teaching Rolfing in 2000, became a faculty member in 2002, and became a member of DIRI’s Advanced Faculty in 2017. He is actively involved in research, is a past Chair of the faculty’s Executive Education Committee, and is a past member of the Institute’s Board of Directors. Russell’s enthusiasm for his practice is endless, and he approaches every day with the desire to get better at his work. As a teacher, he strives to meet students where they are and impart to them knowledge and skills they can make use of.
