Description

This course offers tools based on the tonic function model to help clients achieve improved body stability and enhanced coordination through

  • enhanced sensory awareness,
  • evocative language, and
  • mindful movement education strategies.
Students will practice using simple props (such as walking sticks and TheraBands) and guided movements (such as having clients push their feet against the wall) to help clients form new neural pathways. Students learn to guide clients through specific movement sequences that clients can adopt as valuable self-care practices.
Topics covered:
  • What does normal stability look and feel like?
  • How do anatomical structures contribute to stabilization?
  • How do we include self-care in our work with clients?
  • How can we help clients learn to discern and value non-effortful stability?

Experiential Exercises
Students will be guided through exercises for deepening their own body awareness.
Therapeutic Techniques
Students will pair with classmates to learn and refine sophisticated movement integration sequences. Opportunities to practice evocative language and directional movement prompts will help students gain confidence in using this interactive, dynamic, and creative style of structural integration. Detailed, step-by-step written guides will be provided for easy recall of all information presented.
Lectures and Group Discussions
Through lectures and group discussions, students' understanding will be strengthened in areas of movement theory, anatomy/physiology, and neurology of movement and coordination (including Hubert Godard’s Tonic Function Model and Gracovetsky’s Spinal Engine theory).
Prerequisites

Rolf Movement Certification is open to all SI practitioners from an IASI Recognized SI Training Program. This class is open to all interested movement practitioners from allied professions with instructor approval. This workshop offers 4 credits toward the 30-day Rolf Movement Certification. Basic Training students must have completed Phase II prior to enrolling in any of these Intensive Module Courses.

  • Open to all Certified Rolfers and practitioners of Structural Integration who have completed an IASI Recognized SI Program.
  • Open to Allied Professions with Instructor approval.
