This Advanced Training is a 168-hour course that will take place over two three-week training modules, with 5-6 weeks between the modules. Each module will be 12 days over three weeks.

Our approach to this class will be to deepen, refine, and enhance the skills you already have, and introduce new concepts and skills designed to transform the way you practice and the results you are able to produce.

The goal of Advanced Training is to transcend a recipe-driven practice and open the practitioner to the possibilities of a client-centered, non-formulaic approach, allowing the Rolfer® to perceive and intervene more appropriately and with greater effectiveness.

The course will emphasize:

  • Designing a principle-driven Rolfing® Structural Integration, non-formulaic Advanced 5-series
  • A regionalized approach designed to deepen understanding, refine palpation skills, and develop Rolfers’ awareness of response in their clients’ structure and function
    • An integrated approach to spinal biomechanics with an emphasis on shape, density, relationships between adjacent segments and the overall whole body pattern
    • The latest fascial anatomy based on the ground-breaking science of the Steccos, including:
      • The potency of working with superficial fascia - relevance to skin and deep fascia
      • Distinctions between different types of fascia and their susceptibility to manipulation
      • Deep fascia’s relevance to viscera
      • Intramuscular septa and their relevance to neurovascular structures within body patterns
  • Therapeutic relationship and the cultivation of Rolfer’s capacity to be present

About the Instructor

Russell Stolzoff first encountered Rolfing® as a classroom client at the Rolf Institute® in 1983. The energy and freedom it brought inspired him to become a Rolfer®. He completed his training in 1989 and received his advanced certification in 1998. Russell’s interest in the connection between body and mind led him to study Somatic Experiencing trauma resolution with Peter Levine, and somatic developmental psychology with Lisbeth Marcher and Marriane Bentzen at the Bodynamic Institute of Denmark.

Russell began teaching Rolfing in 2000 and became a member of the Rolf Institute’s Advanced Faculty in 2016. As a teacher he is passionate about helping practitioners to develop their skills in order to become more precise and effective. As a practitioner he is continually striving to improve his own understanding of the body and his ability to help clients live more comfortably in their bodies.

Russell lives and works in Bellingham, WA and helps clients of all ages and occupations with issues related to pain, movement, and performance.

Kevin McCoy was introduced to Rolfing® Structural Integration when he was a college athlete dealing with a rotator cuff injury. The result from receiving Rolfing was transformative and led to his decision to become a Rolfer®. Kevin received his basic certification in 1985 and his advanced certification in 1990. His abiding interest in the relationships between anatomy, injury and physical disability led him to become a licensed physical therapist and work at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation providing Rolfing Structural Integration to individuals with chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.

In 2006 he joined the Rolf Institute’s faculty where he is actively involved in the process of creating and teaching Rolfing to the next generation of practitioners.  Currently, Kevin is engaged in a 3-year Fascial Manipulation™ training in Italy with Carla Stecco, MD and Antonio Stecco, MD. The Steccos are responsible for groundbreaking science and treatment methods that address pain and physical dysfunction.
