Bettina Schneider, Certified Rolfer

I am a Certified Rolfer and Rolf Movement Practitioner, and received my certification for the original method of Structural Integration from the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado, in 2004. I have been practicing bodywork in San Francisco since 2002, and I have my own practice in the Glen Park neighborhood of San Francisco. I am also a Certified Massage Therapist trained in Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release Technique, Sports Injury and Post Surgical Rehabilitation, Visceral Manipulation, Orthopedic Massage, and Trigger Point Therapy, which I integrate into my Rolfing practice.

The realm of the senses, the human body, the complexity of the psyche, health, fitness and the achievement of happiness and wellbeing have always captivated me and compelled me to explore the healing arts.

A severe car accident in my twenties left me with a hip that was extremely limited in it’s range of motion and I suffered a constant low-grade pain that motivated me to try just about everything that promised me relief – even if just short-term. After exploring many different physical therapy modalities I discovered Rolfing.

Rolfing brought me the most significant results in a surprisingly short period of time and restored my wellbeing. The changes I experienced in my body were so significant that I decided to make a career change in order to help others find relief from pain, regain physical strength, achieve freedom of movement - and, most of all, discover the joy of their bodies in equilibrium.

Inspiration, empowerment, and enthusiasm are gifts I received from my teachers and mentors, which I strive to pass on to my clients. Although Rolfing is the core of my practice, I draw upon the full spectrum of my training, life experiences and knowledge to help my clients grow and enjoy better health in their daily lives. I educate, facilitate and foster awareness in my clients to help them improve their quality of life by living in harmony with their minds, bodies and spirits. My approach is methodical and goal-oriented, intuitive and accommodating. I honor the goals and requests of my clients and make it a priority to custom tailor my sessions to their specific needs. My clients describe me as genuine, warm, compassionate, knowledgeable and skilled.

My passion for anatomy runs deep. My study of the subject includes participating in Gil Hedley’s 6-day human dissection seminars in 2005 and 2010, both of which greatly expanded and deepened my understanding of structural relationships within the human body. The whole-body, layer-by-layer integral approach of the seminars allowed me to visually and texturally comprehend how interrelated the tissues, joints and bones truly are, and profoundly changed the way I approach the structural realignment process.

Healing is a life long journey into greater self-discovery and awareness toward wholeness. I believe strongly that we all have enormous potential to continuously change and improve our current condition. Our body's innate intelligence and interconnectedness with mind & spirit allow us to heal ourselves, if the right opportunities and circumstances are given.
